What to look for in a RepairDesk alternative

Price per store, paid extras, how fast staff learn it and how your data moves across. A practical checklist before you switch repair shop software.

If you run a phone repair shop or cell phone store on RepairDesk and you're weighing up RepairDesk alternatives, you're probably asking two questions. Am I paying for more than I use? And would something built for phone shops suit us better? This checklist helps you answer both, whichever software you choose.

We make Phonesol, repair shop software and POS built only for phone repair shops and cell phone stores, so we'll show where it fits on each point. RepairDesk prices and facts below come from RepairDesk's public pricing page as of October 2026, unless we say otherwise. Prices change, so check the page yourself before you decide.

Why phone shops look for a RepairDesk alternative

RepairDesk is a well-known system, but when phone shops start looking around, the same reasons come up again and again in public reviews:

  • Cost. "I do find it expensive considering other options in the market" (a G2 reviewer, 2026).
  • Paying extra for features. "functions that won't work with an extra fee, such as RD phone number" (a Capterra reviewer, 2024).
  • More software than a phone shop needs. "a bit of a steep learning curve, and I'm not using 99% of what I'm paying for" (a G2 reviewer, 2026).

If that sounds familiar, use the checklist below to compare RepairDesk competitors on what affects your shop every day. For a side-by-side table of features and prices, see our full Phonesol vs RepairDesk comparison.

A seven-point checklist for choosing repair shop software

1. Price per store, and what it includes

Start with what you'll actually pay each year, not the headline monthly figure. Here is RepairDesk pricing from its public pricing page as of October 2026, next to Phonesol's published prices:

PlanMonthly billingBilled yearly
RepairDesk Essentialfrom $99 per storefrom $79 per store, paid upfront
RepairDesk Growthfrom $149 per storefrom $119 per store, paid upfront
Phonesol Essentials€49 (1 store, 4 users)€39
Phonesol Growth€79 per store€63 per store

Both offer unlimited repair tickets and about 20% off for yearly billing, but Phonesol starts at €49 a month against RepairDesk's $99 per store. Phonesol's prices exclude tax.

The currencies differ, so work out your own comparison:

  1. Count your stores and the staff who need their own login.
  2. Multiply the per-store price by your stores and by 12. Two stores on Phonesol Growth billed yearly come to €63 × 2 × 12 = €1,512 a year before tax.
  3. Do the same sum for every quote, in your own currency, with tax added.
  4. Add the extras from the next point.

2. Add-ons and extras

The base plan is rarely the whole bill. On RepairDesk's pricing page as of October 2026, loyalty, store credits and gift cards are marked "(Paid)" on the Essential plan with no price shown, and add-ons such as Email Campaigns, Appointments Pro and the RepairDesk Phone System are named without published prices.

Whichever software you choose, ask for the extras in writing:

  • Which of the features I need cost extra, and how much, in writing?
  • How are SMS messages charged?
  • What happens to the price when I add a user or a store?

A lower base price plus three extras you can't do without may not be lower at all.

3. How focused it is on phone shops

Every feature built for another trade is one more menu your staff scroll past. RepairDesk's website, as of October 2026, markets it to computer, watch, jewellery, drone and bicycle repair as well as phones.

Phonesol is built only for phone repair shops and cell phone stores, and it shows:

  • Repair tickets with the IMEI, passcode, condition photos and a pre-repair checklist taken at check-in
  • Inventory with IMEI and serial tracking and 3,000+ ready-made products, so you don't type your catalogue in by hand
  • Warranty tracked on every repair, with the device's full history
  • A POS with accessories, repairs and unlocking in one cart, plus split payments and deposits

4. How fast your staff can learn it

Complexity costs you twice: in training time and in mistakes at the counter. "The sheer volume of options... can be a little overwhelming," wrote a G2 reviewer, 2026, about RepairDesk.

Phonesol is learnable in about an hour. Test that claim, and any other vendor's, by giving the least technical person on your team three tasks and no help:

  1. Check in a Galaxy S26 with a cracked screen, recording the IMEI and taking a deposit.
  2. Sell an iPhone 18 Pro case and screen protector, paid half in cash and half by card.
  3. Close the register at the end of the day.

If a task takes longer than a busy Saturday allows, it will cost you every week.

5. Whether you can try it without a sales call

On RepairDesk's pricing page as of October 2026, the "Free Trial" and "Get Started" buttons lead to a Book a Demo form, and the FAQ says pricing depends on user count, features and workflow customisation. A demo shows software at its best, driven by someone who knows it inside out.

Phonesol publishes its prices and offers a 14-day free trial with no card needed. Put your own products and a week of real repairs through it before you commit.

6. Help moving your data

Switching is where most shops stall. Ask exactly what will be moved for you, and check it covers:

  • customers, with phone numbers and email addresses
  • devices and IMEI numbers linked to those customers
  • products, parts, prices and stock levels
  • open repair tickets and any deposits taken

Phonesol helps you move from RepairDesk: we import your customers, products and repair history with you and check them before you go live. See how data migration works.

7. Who owns your data

Your customer list and repair history are worth more than any subscription. Ask every vendor whether you can export everything whenever you like, how often it's backed up, and what ties you in.

On contracts, RepairDesk's pricing page as of October 2026 says you can cancel at any time. Yearly plans are paid upfront, its FAQ notes that "refunds and penalties may apply" when moving to annual billing, and downgrades after the refund period aren't refunded.

Phonesol data is encrypted, backed up daily and exportable, with no lock-in. If you ever leave, your data leaves with you.

How to switch from RepairDesk without a messy week

Plan the move around your trading, not the software:

  1. Check your renewal date. If you pay yearly, switch at the end of the period you've paid for.
  2. Start a trial and set up one store, beginning from the 3,000+ ready-made products rather than a blank list.
  3. Export your data as spreadsheets, wherever your current system lets you.
  4. Import with help, so nobody retypes customers at the counter.
  5. Deal with open repairs. Finish them in the old system or move them with their deposits, so nobody pays twice.
  6. Go live on a quiet day, after an hour's training the day before.
  7. Spot-check after a week: stock counts, customer records and register totals.
